Memorial Day Weekend Field Guide
Summertime is special here in Coastal Alabama, for residents and vacationers alike.
That’s why we go all-out every Memorial Day Weekend to celebrate the beginning of our 100 Days of Summer—and this year is no exception!
Want to get the low-down on our Memorial Day Weekend extravaganza? Check out our handy field guide below, then mark your calendars and grab some sunscreen.
Our weekend kick-off event is also one of The Wharf’s most popular annual attractions—and as soon as you see those beach balls falling from the sky (5,000 of them!), you’ll know why.
But this isn’t just a spectator event; some of the beach balls are marked and redeemable for prizes. Great stuff like Pepsi gear, The Wharf swag, and more. So get out there and go crazy (within reason, please).
There’s plenty more going on before and after the drop, of course. Nashville country singer Blaire Hanks will perform at 5:30, and we’ll have family activities like face painting, camel rides, a bouncy house, a surf simulator, a rock climbing wall, and much more.
Best of all, admission is free! Some activities will cost a bit extra, but all are welcome to join us.
May 26 – Brand New Spectra Pirate Show
Have you heard that we’re also debuting a brand new Spectra Sound & Light Spectacular show on Memorial Day Weekend? Well, the rumors are true!
Starting May 26, come and see our brand new pirate-themed show: Pepsi Presents An Epic Pirate Adventure Sound & Light Spectacular! Enjoy the adventures of Stinky LaFitte as he embarks upon an evening voyage each night.
As always, our Spectra Sound & Light Spectacular is free, and you can enjoy three different shows every night all along Main Street.
It’s not every day you get to see bona fide country music legends perform in concert—and what a treat it’ll be on Memorial Day Weekend for our C Spire Concert Series.
Alabama have been touring for nearly 50 years, and they’re one of the biggest groups in the world with over 75 million albums sold globally. And they’ve kept the band together, too—the cousins Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook still share the stage to this day.
Tickets are on sale now, so get ‘em while you can!
Since it’s a three-day weekend, we thought we’d celebrate on Sunday as well—with some hot crawfish, cold beer, and live music!
We’ll be cooking up tons of fresh crawfish straight from Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Basin, courtesy of the folks at Mudbug Mafia in Brewton, AL. And there’ll be with plenty of cold beer to wash it down.
And since we’ll be at The Wharf Amphitheater, we had to bring a musical guest, right? Come see the country music stylings of Alabama native Drake White! If you aren’t familiar with Drake, he’s opened for the likes of 2017 C Spire Concert Series performers Eric Church and Luke Bryan, and other bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Big Town, and Zac Brown Band. Check out this AL.com profile to learn more.
Admission is free thanks to our generous presenting sponsors: Ace Concrete, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Luna’s Eat & Drink, GT’s on The Bay, and Gulf Coast House of Jerky.
Help our friends at 95KSJ raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital with a suggested donation at the door. A limited number of VIP packages are available.
May 31/June 1 – Kid's Night/Sparks After Dark
If you’ll be sticking around after Memorial Day, come enjoy the first installments of two of our weekly summer events.
Now that school’s out, we’re celebrating the season every Wednesday night with Kid’s Night. Every week will have a theme (we’re kicking things off with a foam party) and a featured live animal, plus tons of activities and games for kids to enjoy. Plus admission is free!
Then come on back the next night for our Thursday night fireworks show, Sparks After Dark! Every Thursday night, following our 8:30 Spectra Sound & Light Spectacular, we’ll be setting off some tremendous fireworks over Main Street. You don’t have to w
