Dog-Friendly Spots to Visit at The Wharf

Years ago, it was quite a “ruff” life for dog owners on the go. The noticeable lack of fur-friendly businesses was evident in most corners of the nation, especially in this area. Luckily for all the Fido lovers out there, times are a changin’.

The demand for mutt-welcome restaurants, stores, and parks has skyrocketed and we are happy to assert that The Wharf has always been ahead of the curve. We are a proud pooch-promoting destination, no fluff about it!

With the calendar arrival of National Dog Day this Saturday, August 26th, consider this a formal invitation to leash up your four-legged fuzzy pals, load ‘em in the car, and come partake in all that The Wharf has to offer for both you and the mutts. Here is a glimpse into just a few of the many pet paw-sitive places to explore on site.

Treats and Goodies Galore

Does Max or Bella need a new collar, bottle of shampoo or sack of homemade treats? No problemo. Check out one of these locations for a surplus of unique canine-centric finds.

High Cotton Bath Company
Humans aren’t the only ones that enjoy a good spa day! While you customize a shower scrub for yourself in the store, tailor a specialty shampoo or fragrance for your pup as well. The sweet-scented products will come in handy when it’s cuddle time.

Tickled Pink
A virtual gold mine for all things pet-related, Twisted Whiskers, located within Tickled Pink boutique, is a one stop hub for every doggo desire. Whether you are in search of a couture tutu dress for your sassy dachshund, all-natural “gourmutt” cookies, or botanical grooming spray, they’ve got all bases covered. Trust us, if you walk in the door holding a bag from this store, your bow wows will give you kisses by the truck loads!

Gulf Coast House of Jerky
Mako Shark. Kangaroo. Python. Yep, these are merely three of the dozens of jerky selections available at this one-of-a-kind shop. So, of course they have a variety of dried delights on hand for the pupperinos as well! Buster Bones, chicken snacks, and “Dog Lover” embellished coffee mugs can all be procured off the shelves.

Doggie-Inspired Apparel
It’s okay to wear your heart on your sleeve. It’s even better if you wear a dog pattern on it. Be a proud furbaby enthusiast and accessorize accordingly. These spots can help support your habit.

The Bag Lady
You need to get your claws on an authorized Puppie Love tee whilst browsing through Bag Lady. This darling line of shirts found in the store is not just adorable, guys. The collection was created earlier this year with the noble intent of placing shelter dogs into loving forever homes. Buy one (or three) and 10% of the brand’s profits go to various no-kill shelters to help accelerate adoption. No shopper’s remorse here!

Shades Sunglasses and Casual Apparel
If you’ve ever heard of Shades, visited a location, or only browsed their social media pages, it’s clearly evident that labeling them as a “dog-friendly” company is an understatement. Shirts and hats featuring prints of pups line the racks throughout and if you crouch down below the stands of clothing, you’ll most likely find a warm nose poking upwards. K9s are just as appreciated in each locale as the customers are. Barks are encouraged!

Paw Pit Stops
Something is growling and it’s not your hound. If you wish to grab a bite to eat out or something to drink, no need to leave the pets crated at home. Bring them along! Sit for a spell outside at one of these places and dine with your dog.

The Southern Grind
This incredible coffee house caters to all members of a family, including the furrier ones. Take a load off in the pet-friendly courtyard. You can sip and snack while your bud does the same. There is a treat canister located inside, a tray outside with complimentary doggy bones, and a water bowl filled to the brim. Don’t be offended if the staff greets your pup first! From the dog-doting owners to the cheerful baristas, you and your pet will be treated like royalty at the Grind.

The Sugar Shack and Café
Snag a hotdog with your hot dog! This café has a patio out front with seating that can accommodate you and the pooch. The gracious staff will happily refill your Pepsi with a side of cold H2O for your pet.

The Wharf warmly welcomes wags, as you can see! We are a dog-friendly destination across the board, not only at our stores and restaurants, but from events, to our marina, to the ample grassy acreage in place for pets to roam on leash.

There are several “hydration stations” to be found, such as at Ocean Camp. A freshwater bowl is always in place outside their business for thirsty guests.

Stroll the docks with your pup and take in a sunrise or sunset.

Next year when you catch the illustrious Wharf Boat & Yacht Show, have your dog or your friend’s dog tag along. Fur-iends are invited and urged to attend.

It’s a dog’s world and we are happy to live in it!

*Superstar Shop Dogs*

These special pups are an important part of each team. Make sure you give them a friendly scratch on the head when you spy them out and about!
