Cars, Crafts, Crawfish, and Crooners, Oh My: 5 Draws of the Orange Beach Seafood Fest
February 21, 2018
Looking for something different to do this upcoming weekend? Search no further!
The 26th Annual Orange Beach Seafood Festival will take place at The Wharf on Saturday, and we eagerly invite you and the whole family to come join us.
There's never a shortage of activities to do and yummy eats to consume along the way. It's an entire day of good, clean fun for every age and every pallet. If you've never attended and need a handful of attractive reasons to make the short trek over, we've highlighted a few in particular that are sure to cement your decision!
Folks, the name alone spells it out for ya: SEAFOOD! Imagine rows upon rows of mouth-watering coastal bites to get your taste buds humming. Chow down on shrimp po'boys, a variety of bisques and gumbos, crab cakes, fish tacos, lobster rolls, or oysters. Prefer turf to surf options? Don't sweat it! They will have chicken, ribs, and heaps of lip-smacking sides like gooey mac and cheese to delve into. You won't find fresher cuts or catches than here along the Gulf. Word of advice-come hungry!
If the tasty fare list alone isn't music to your ears, well, we have actual music for your ears. The live entertainment lineup at the fest is stacked! There will be a continuous stream of tunes being played while you play. Local songbird Savannah Litton takes the Main Stage at 9:30am, followed by the jazzy sounds of David Jones and Friends, and concluding with youthful performer Jon Crawford to set you on your way. The young'uns will be regaled as well at the Kids Zone Stage by various musical acts and soloists. Just remember that it's okay to dance and dine simultaneously, especially in the festival streets!
With a mega roster of over 95 specialty vendors on board this year, there will be plenty to see, feel, touch, and, hopefully, buy! Whether you need to pick up an early birthday gift for a friend, a "just because" for your sweetie, or something wholly unique for yourself, you'll have lots to choose from. These arts and craft booths will be displaying everything from hand-made jewelry, clothing, ceramics, wooden signs, candles, and artwork galore. You can shake hands with painters, photographers, and mixed media artists, all in one location!
Speaking of works of art, it will be impossible to miss the picturesque bunch of classic hot rods parked on Main Street. Powder blues and apple reds, these cars will blind you with unapologetic mechanical beauty (and horsepower). From a 1930s Suburban to a 2017 Mustang Shelby, the gamut of collectable vehicles displayed will be as wildly diverse as it is breathtaking. It doesn't matter if you aren't necessarily a car buff. Sometimes a little eye candy is just good for the soul!
This annual festival is the Orange Beach Sports Association's largest fundraiser of the year. The proceeds raised support youth sports-related activities in Orange Beach, such as baseball, softball, and tee-ball. The funds help with the purchase of equipment and uniforms, as well as provide the pay for instructional clinics. It's always nice to attend an event for the enjoyment and atmosphere, but it's even better to participate when that affair is serving a greater purpose!
