Moon Pie Mindset: How to Do Mardi Gras at The Wharf

February 10, 2018

Show of hands - who's ready to do the Mardi Gras Mambo? (Cue the brass band).

We've all got a little bounce in our step because this particular time of year demands us to celebrate to the fullest degree. It's the primo occasion to let your hair down, throw those hands up, and laissez les bons temps rouler!

As always, The Wharf is prepped and ready to accommodate all of your Mardi Gras needs and desires. We've composed a few handy tips to help you reap the most out of your royal experience.

1. Get in the Spirit

Remember, while the destination is always nice, the journey is what really counts. With that being said, do some prep work to really shift you into the carnival mood! If you plan to glitter your face or spray paint your hair a festive shade of violet, go for it. This is the moment to shine purple, green, and gold.

Our fine friends at The Bag Lady have Mardi Gras-inspired tees and accessories that are guaranteed to set you apart from the crowd. Make sure to buy a few because, as you know, this institution is more than a day-long fête around here!

Swing by Fish on a Dish for a pair of fleur-de-lis earrings to add an exclamation point to your ensemble. You'll even receive a pair of free beads with the purchase!

We haven't forgotten Fido either! Tickled Pink has a variety of fashionable finds for your furry friends to model before, during, and after the parades.

2. Sip and Feast like Kings and Queens

This is NOT the season for moderation. Indulge in a little edible excess; we promise not to judge.

Aligning with tradition, we have several spots on property to pick up an authentic King Cake.

Burris Farm Market has King Cakes in assorted sizes and a multitude of flavors! Choose from classic cream cheese, apple, blueberry, raspberry, or even praline pecan, just to name a few.

The Market always keeps us on our toes, but they've really stepped it up this go 'round! Stop in and snag a delectable Mini-Cheesecake King Cake. Hurry though because they are only available while supplies last!

Feeling especially adventurous? Order an indulgent Moon Pie Latte or Frappe from The Southern Grind, then dance on down to The Sugar Shack for a decorated cookie or sweet treat.

3. Make a MonDAY of It

Lundi Gras is the French moniker for "Fat Monday" and we will be reveling in the excitement all day long. Won't you join us?

Our Moonpies on Main parades kick off at 4pm. The annual Kid & Pet Parade will begin in front of the Ferris Wheel at that time, so rally your kiddie and/or kritter krewe and meet us for the procession. Strut your stuff with your bead-clad Beagle or wagon-riding tot.

If you need to unload that goodie bag for more space or feed your appetite at one of our many incredible restaurants, you'll have a little time to do so in between parades.

Or, perhaps you need to wet your whistle. Blue Water BBQ Company is offering a special on their electrifying Blue Water (spiked) Lemonades for only $5!

The Float Parade will take place around 6pm in magnificent fashion. Get ready for a dazzling display of colorful design and décor!

4. Be a Glutton (for FUN) on Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday is the pièce de résistance. The OMEGA. Let's keep that momentum going, folks. Come hang with us after the city parades!

The Intracoastal welcomes you with open arms. They'll have Fat Tuesday specials and live entertainment throughout the day into the night. Sit down for a bite to eat with friends and family or partake in a $4 King Cake shot at the bar! DJ Kelly will be spinning the jams in the afternoon.

Nothing screams "Mardi Gras" more than a frozen daiquiri. Island Time Daiquiris is the go-to spot for a true New Orleans style concoction. The Wharf is an Entertainment District, so don't forget you can take your cocktail with you on-the-go!
