February Tenant of the Month:
Becky Hitchens, Manager of Bungalows
Every month we are spotlighting one of our tenants here at The Wharf. This month it’s the glorious manager of Bungalows!
Step into the world of boutiques to learn more about Bungalows and Becky. They have a little bit of everything from household items to jewelry to adorable socks with cats on them! There is something for everyone in Bungalows so be sure to stop by and see what they have to offer!
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Kentucky, raised in Michigan.
How long has Bungalows been at The Wharf?
Bungalows has been at the Wharf for many years! It used to be across the street in the building where Build-A-Bear is now located. The corner that we now occupy has been our home for at least 4 years.
What sort of goods or services do you provide?
We are a large boutique. We carry a little of everything! We have higher-end jewelry such as Julie Vos and Uno de 50 as well as Alex and Ani, Brighton, and Dune, just to name a few. We have the Gypsy Line leather goods that are so unique and hot in Vegas. We have socks—yes, socks! People love reading and buying Wit brand. We can’t forget Simply Southern t-shirts, bracelets, etc. Customers young and old can find something to take home with them.
What does a typical workday involve for you?
I have a great team. We set a plan and work to keep the store organized and clean. Our main goal is customer service. We try to greet everyone and guide them through our store. My typical workday is planning for the next quest.
What’s the most unusual thing that has happened to you on the job?
Meeting a person that I have not seen in 20 years. She recognized my voice, and it was a little reunion!
What do you love the most about living and working in Orange Beach?
I love the sun and I love meeting all of the people that come from all over the U.S. and other countries. What a small world we have become.
What’s your favorite annual event at The Wharf?
I enjoy the car shows. Most car show participants have a real passion for their vintage autos. They enjoy their hobby and want to share their stories.
Other than Bungalows, what is your favorite place to shop at The Wharf?
I love furniture and decorating, and we are lucky to have several stores that offer great pieces and ideas.
What is your favorite restaurant at The Wharf?
Don’t have a favorite. All of them have something I enjoy!
What is something that customers might not know about your store?
We are privately owned. Our owners have a store in the French Quarter and an outlet store in Foley as well.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
I like to walk and shop.
What is your favorite food?
Potatoes and pizza. (That is why I have to walk!)
What is your favorite band/musician?
I don’t have a favorite, but if you shop our store, we play oldies music. It’s great to listen to our customers sing along—I’ve seen several dance too!
If you could spend the day with any celebrity or historical figure (living or dead) who would it
So many to choose from, but I would pick Helen Keller. I can only imagine her strength. What a life challenge she endured and unexpressed compassion.
If you won the lottery, what would you do with your winnings?
First, I would hire a lawyer! I have 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, so I would make sure they all had an opportunity for a good education. Then I’d start a charity.
Do you have any pets?
My husband has a little dog. I prefer stuffed animals!
Auburn or Alabama?
