Longtime friends Kristi Pennington Claunch and Cindy Blackwell Williams have several things in common. They both love working out, both love the spa experience and they both love and call Orange Beach home.
So, the two friends decided to pool their resources and combine their love for physical fitness and the spa experience in a business endeavor. They opened Evolve Fitness Spa at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Ala. last month.
Located on the second floor, the space is truly a unique one combining a yoga-dance room, fitness room with state-of-the-art physical fitness apparatus, and a spa where clients can get a massage, manicures, eyelashes or hair.
For Pennington, operating a gym came naturally. "I'd been in and around the gym my whole adult life and it's where I'm at home," Pennington explained. "Three years ago I obtained my personal training license and started doing what was always a habit for me anyway."
With Pennington's new career came a desire to start her own gym. She just needed the right partner who had the means, the time and desire. It seemed her longtime friend might be the partner who was right under her nose.
After raising her daughter, Williams had been at home looking for an opportunity. "I guess you could say I was in an empty nest syndrome," Williams said. "After months of persistence and non-stop discussion about a concept for business Evolve Fitness Spa was born. Orange Beach has a lot of things to do but we felt something like this was missing from the community."
For Pennington and Williams, the mission statement is a simple one. "Evolve is to be a place of encouragement, a place of empowerment, and a gathering of women of all ages, races and backgrounds," Williams said. "We also have a strong desire to give back to the community in which we live because we love Orange Beach. We are excited to see what happens."
