Today is the first day of the World Food Championships!

If you’re unfamiliar with the event, the WFC is the largest competition in Food Sport, where champions of previous events convene annually for a chance at winning the ultimate food champion title and a share of a prize purse worth more than $350,000. The World Food Championships’ platform ranges from live-event competitions to a robust multimedia platform that serves culinary stars, pro chefs, home cooks, brands, and destinations.

Who doesn’t love to sample gourmet food from top chefs?! We definitely do! It may sometimes be hard to navigate around during the World Food Championships, so we are going to provide you with the information you need to be able to successfully navigate around and be able to see and taste as much food as possible.

Only the VIP Lounge will be able to sample what each of the competitors are cooking throughout the competition. General admission attendees will be able to view the competitors cooking. The public tents during their scheduled times will give out samples. Sampling in the Walmart Tasting Pavilion is free for all guests when they show the Walmart app on their smart phone.

The awards after each competition for each day and category will take place in The Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf from 8pm -10pm, Thursday through Sunday.

Tickets available for this event include general admission daily passes for $10 or weekend passes for $25. These are available at the gate. Children 12 years and under get in free!

The WFC's VIP Lounge is the ultimate foodie experience! VIP ticket holders will enjoy celebrity chef demos, complimentary refreshments, and a birds-eye-view of the turn-in action, all while getting a taste of the actual turn-in samples for the 2018 championship. VIP tickets are $75 per day or $225 for a weekend pass.

Breakout events that will require an additional ticket include:

Soup or Bowl Sunday - Brand new this year is Soup-Or-Bowl Sunday, presented by Natural Tableware. While competitors who’ve won their way to the Top Ten rounds are battling it out in WFC’s Kitchen Arena, Soup-or-Bowl Sunday contestants will be dishing out samples to the public in hopes of taking home some cash for their charity or civic group.

Who will take home this SOUPer trophy? You decide! A ticket into Soup-or-Bowl Sunday grants you a vote in this sure-to-be-a-hit people’s choice competition. This event is Sunday, Nov. 11th from 11am-4pm in the BBQ Beach Zone.

Steakout People’s Choice - The Steak Out, where grilling professionals will be vying for the World Steak Championship. Be sure to come out on Saturday when Steak Grillmasters will be competing in the Steak Out People’s Choice! A ticket gets you five samples and one vote. With an anticipated field of 20 steak competitors, you’ll need to map out the area and choose wisely!

This event is $15 to participate and is Saturday Nov. 10th from 2pm-4pm located in the Steak Out Zone.

A Blue Sky Bounty - Operation BBQ Relief (OBR) is hosting a fundraising event that will be an evening of grit and grace. This promises to be a night of amazing food, great friends, and excitement as funds are raised for disaster relief missions.

“Blue skies” are the times OBR is not called upon for disaster relief and are the times to spend with their supporters, volunteers, and sponsors. The evening will showcase tasting stations prepared by chefs and local celebrities, live entertainment, and a silent auction. This event is on Friday, Nov.9th from 5-9pm located at Heron Point. The tickets are $95.

The Yacht Club Progressive Dinner Party – This paid event is sold out, but if you already bought tickets, you will go to The Wharf Marina and the staff will be there to direct you to the correct yacht. This event is Saturday Nov. 10th from 4-6pm.
